Standing at the edge of the rim at Bryce Canyon I could hear the approaching storm, the day had been dreary gray, I only walked to the edge more out of habit that anything. I watched, as the other visitors cleared off the dangerously exposed rim thinking to myself I probably should leave too. I called my wife to give her the news that the evening wasn’t promising at Bryce for sunset. She told me she had a feeling it was going to be a beautiful sunset, and to hold on and see. As soon as I hung up a loud clap of thunder echoed through the canyon, I felt a lightning bolt hit nearby. Rain started falling and the smell of sage and wet sandstone drifted through the air. I know, most of you are thinking, you are crazy for being, there, but I am crazy, I’m a photographer trying to capture these dramatic moments. I waited and watched. Slowly the rain stopped, the thunder drifted away and before me a brilliant rainbow appeared with the hoodoos below me glowing from the dramatic light only storms produce.
